IP of SAS/iSCSI bridge

I have aquired a used SAS/iSCSI bridge.  I have reset the TL2000 that it is installed in to factory config via the front panel.  The bridge is not pingable on its default IP (10.10.10.10) nor any IP on that subnet (10.10.10.0/8).

I am plugged into the Ethernet port closest to the SAS port.

The ethernet light blinks with packets (ARP) received.

There is a green blinking light.

Short of an exhaustive scan of all IP space with an nmap ping scan, is there no other way to determine its IP?  Or, better, to reset this device back to its default IP,? Can I send a broadcast to it to learn what IP it has been configured for? (ICMP broadcast does not seem to result in a response).  I have seen references to a LANScan utility.  What is its URL?  Does it require you to know which subnet the device is assigned to, or will it work regardless of how this device has been configured by its previous owner.

Submitting an idea for improving the next revision:  A reset button would be quite handy for this type of thing!

Thanks!

DR4100 with 10 1Tb drives. Used the bios of the R610 to build a Raid 6 with one hot swap drive. Open in Dell OpenManage server Administration and the configuration was there and correct at 6+ Tb. But when I opened the storage in the management console of windows 2008 R2 it asked a question and then set the DAS as disk0 and split it as a 2 Tb and 4 Tb. I can set up the 2 Tb as a simple disk but not the 4 Tb, option not there. I want it as a 6 Tb, thoughts to fix this? I was going to try to delete it and retry setting it up. Thanks.

BTW, sorry for duplicate post: I have created this new post, as the question I posted at the bottom of the last thread seems to have gone unnoticed.

Firmware update for out-of-warranty ns-120

Remember way back when Dell was selling EMC storage? Well, at the time, we bought an AX-4 and an NS-120 for 2 different sites. The NS-120 went largely unused for several years, as it had been installed in a brand-new facility that hadn't really figured out what it wanted to be when it grew up.

Well, as you may recall, Dell and EMC parted ways, and this event happened to occur while we still had an active support agreement on our NS-120. We made several attempts to get a firmware upgrade from Dell, but all we did in fact get was lip service and the run-around. Then the support agreement expired.

Fast forward to today. Money is tight, and we are desperately seeking some inexpensive nearline storage for backups. Now, I realize that relying on old, out-of-warranty hardware is hardly ideal, but we own it, it's essentially unused, and it contains gobs and gobs of disk space, enough to back our stuff up 10 times over.

So, here's the problem. The firmware. It's old. You have to use a version of Java in the 6 family to use the web interface. We don't want to/can't do that, because that ancient Java will show up on our weekly vulnerability scans, and some manager 3 levels above us will lose their mind if they see that.

My question. Is there any way at all to get firmware for an old system like this? We thought that since Dell and EMC are getting back together, there might be a chance, but inquires sent to both parties went unanswered.

Any suggestions?

thanks

Errors on ML6000

Hey, everyone. I am using a ML6000 that had a bunch of errors. Now, I'm only down to a couple, and I'm somewhat stuck. I replaced both tape drives and all the tapes. I still get these errors T033 Drive Tape Alert 3 - Hard Read or Write Error; T036 Drive Tape Alert 6 - Write Failure; and T-045 Drive Tape Alert 20 - Clean now .....while trying to perform back ups. Does anyone know what the issue could be?

Thanks

MD3200 - SAS Port(s) Fail After Firmware Update

$

WOW!  I updated the firmware on the MD3200 to latest 08.20.18.60 and everything appeared to go well. Now one controller is not visible in MSDM and I get a "needs attention" message indicating the SAS ports failed on both controllers. Drives are all visible within MSDM so the controller has life.

How can a firmware update that goes well yield this result? Unit is not under support any longer, so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction to hopefully resolve this.

In the Devices i see the array that i have create but when i want ot start the Array Management Windows it appears the message: Unable to communicate with storage array. Possible causes: 1. The storage array is turned off. 2 The storage array is disconnected and 3 The maximum number of TCP/IP connections to the storage array has beed reached...

Nothing of these 3 are happening..

So any idea?

MD3600i Hot spare parameters.

Morning

we have a Dell MD 3600i SAN attached to which are attached 2 MD1220s.

The MD3600i is the 12 slot version with 1TB Nearline drives 6Gbps @ 7200 RPM ( Constellation ES )

Both the MD1220s are the 24 slot versions and house the 2.5inch 600Gb SAS 6Gbps @ 10K RPM .

The Hot Spare is configured in the 3600i .

As I understood it from the Dell literature the requirement is that the hot spare must be of equal capacity or bigger then the failed drive in order for it to work as a hot spare - I can't find any other requirements.

However the other day when one of the 600Gb drives failed in one of the MD1200s, the Hot Spare failed as well. What I'm trying to figure out is did the hot spare actually fail or was it just unable to act as a hot spare because of another parameter - ie the difference in speed of the drives?

I have replaced both drives and all is back to normal - but I am wondering if it would be better to reconfigure adding another hot spare to protect the faster 600Gb drives?

Many thanks.

Anyone know if i can use OMSA to configure hardware monitoring of MD1200 on a Windows Server 2012 RTM installed on a Cisco UCS C-Series server?

Thanks in advance,

ML6000 and AX4.5 SAN

$

Hi,

I have a ML6000 that is on an AX-4.5 SAN and I'm having trouble getting the Backup Exec server to see it. I can ping the ML from the server but neither the 'unknown media changer' or either of the LTO drives shows up in Device Manager. The drives are FC and there are no errors on the unit itself. It does have a control path listed on one of the drives (the other is a bad drive) over to Backup Exec

I inherited this system and I apologize for the knowledge gap - How will my server see this device if it isn't directly connected.

Thanks!
