Hello good people,

I have a huge problem in my hands, we have turned off a Emc CX4-120, and when we turned it on again, we could no more connect to Navisphere and the Storage itself would not give any activity at the Brocade ports, the lights on the fiber ports at the Switch are off all the time while the lights at the Fibre ports on the Storage are orange, and not connection can be made....
Does anyony have an idea about what is happening?

I have a new Dell Inspiron One 2330 computer with Windows 8, and I am trying to get a restore disk.  I have plugged in a external backup drive with 1Tb available, but the restore function will not recognize it.  The program asks for a USB Key.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Dell community,

It appears that our Dell MD3000i is not able to respond with proper target names:

192.168.2.201:3260,2 l:3

Could anyone please advise about what I am doing wrong while configuring Dell storage or what information can I provide to give a broader view on this issue?

Drive replacement procedure

I have an EMC which I didn't setup, but its in a raid 5 with 8 disks.  1 disk failed, and we had a spare disk still new shrink wrapped.   I removed the bad drive, inserted the new one, and arrow went from orange to blue, blinked for a little bit, then back to yellow.

Looking on screen refreshing throughout, the disk got recognized, said 'transitioning', then the status was removed.

So I read this thread http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/storage/f/3412/p/19466778/20185947.aspx#20185947 which talked about 'specific' disks, but think this is not the case as they had a spare one.   I am not in my co-lo right now to give the new one (it is installed right now but showing removed).  That above thread mentions a part # starting with 005 or 004, but looking at the existing drive I don't see that.   The drive that failed is;

Seagate Barracuda ES 750G
Part: 9BL148-090

I plugged that drive into an external, looked via FDISK and there are no partitions.  I don't know how the navisphere works, but can I simply try to create a partition, format it (do a disk check) and then just re-instert?   If so, what is the partition type?

On the same question, is there anything I can do via the navisphere express software remotely, to try and format that disk, etc as were now running without a safety net.

Thanks for all read/replies.

Dell 2950 and QLA2342 Fiber Adapter

Can anyone provide assistance with these devices? I have a 2950 server that is running 2003 ENT. R2 with a PCI QLA2342 card. Not as experience with fiber cards and it came with the Dell server awhile back. I am trying to see if there is any way to determine if the card is functional other than it showing up in device manager.

The card is connected to a Quantum DX30, which is apparently a very old device, via fiber cabling. The fiber card show’s that is has the drivers installed already in device manager. I have solid green LED on the dual port fiber card. However, 2003 does not show the Quantum as a tape library and medium changer in device manager.

Any help would be appreciated.

Good day,

We have one storage Dell MD 3000i with one additional enclosure. And today we notice two errors in log:

Recovery Guru in this case say "You must contact your technical support representative to correct this failure. DO NOT attempt to fix this problem yourself". So, how we can receive technical support recommendations and try to fix this failure?

If need more detail, we can post any output from Storage Array Profile.

VMware migration from EMC to EQL

Hi all,

Hope someone can help?

A customer is migrating vSphere from EMC to EqualLogic

Existing setup:

CX4-120, 2x Brocade 300, each ESXi host has 2x Emulex  LPe1150 4Gb HBA's and two NICs with EQL MEM installed withaccess to a VMFS5 LUN on the EQL.

The EMC LUN is on 5x SATA II disks, RAID 5, it's a physical RDM in ESXi.

When performing a cold Storage vMotion to the EQL data throughput is only 235Mbps :( I have a limited downtime window and 2TBs to move.

I know that the block size difference between VMFS 3 & 5 can be slow but we hoped for something faster from the EMC.

Any help gratefully received.

Hello,

i am trying to setup clustering with ISCSI on MD3200 but cluster check is failing.

Over windows iscsi initiator i connected to storage and i did not use multipathing each path on the same is same. Now i have 2 luns from storage , quorum 1gb, and data lun 120gb. This check fails for quorum disk and i have no clue why since it's added the same way like the bigger data LUN. Any thoughts?

This is the error:

Which one is better, MD3200 with multiple MD1200? or Multiple MD3200 in one group?

I have a concern that is it possible to use multiple MD3200 Dell SAN in one group to have one large group of large space? (like using 4 11TB Md3200 and use them in one group to get space of 44TB?)

Or its a good idea to have one MD3200 and multiple MD1200 server to increase the space?

How they both different and which one is better if i availability is concern?

Dell SAS and FC storage

Hi,

MD3000 tech spec states:
SAS connectors (per storage controller): 2x4 3.0 Gbps SAS (SFF 8470) "IN" connector for connection to the host.
If we use 5/E SAS HBA maximum throughput we could get is 3 Gbps?
and MD3000 could support max 6 Gbps to server with 6 Gbps HBA adapter?

If replacing MD3000 with DELL FC storage that includes four on board 8 Gb/s Fibber Channel ports we will benefit in throughput even by connecting storage with one port 4 Gbps HBA PCIe 2 Gen adapter (+1gbps)?
Max throughput could be 32 Gbps (four on board 8 Gb/s Fibber Channel ports) but as our Dell server has two PCIe x8 and two PCI x4 slots we could expect max 24 gbps throughput from FC HBA?

Is it correct? This is just throughput in general but lets say disk drives on both storage are the same - SAS 300gb 15K.

Thanks

MD1200 Orange Light

Currently have a MD1200 connected via SAS Cable to a Server.

Orange light on the MD1200 - Cannot access this through the Server to confirm what the error is. MD1200 basically acts as a external hard drive to the server. Checked the Hard Drives that are in MD1200 and are all ok and data is being stored fine.

Any ideas on how to find out what the light is on for?

CX3-20 backplane cables out of sequence - office move jumbled them up!

Hi

We've just moved offices and our 7 rack CX3-20 has been re-installed in the new building but the sequence of which cable goes in which fibre port for the 4Gb backplanes has been lost! Duh!

Currently the Windows 2008 server hosts can see the correct disk drives and read & write to them but whilst I can login to the SPs Navisphere just shows a 'fault' on each SP and does not show any LUNS, drives or disks.

So, silly question, but is there anyway to retroactively discover what fibre should plug into which disk array? The diagram we used for the removal obviously is wrong!

Thanks

David

A fail-over on \Device\MPIODisk1 occurred.

Device path information for admd1:0:0:0 has been removed per MPIO notification (object count 1).

What happens with the Storage?

(Sorry for the mix of german and english, but the Storage Manager is in german, the server OS is english)

I received the following 2 email alerts from our SAN the other day:

Description Fault reported by SPS.
Replace the SPS

I logged into Navisphere and checked the Alerts but there weren't any present so I checked the physical boxes for any warning lights but everything looks green.

Is there somewhere else I can check to find more about these alerts? I've determined that they are referring to the Standby Power Supplies (Battery backups) but from what I can tell, they are operating normally.

(Support has lapsed on these units so can't call in)

best practise for Dell AX4-5F

hi there,

I've been asked to look review a Dell AX4-5F SAN and was hoping for some advice.

Below is the LUN layout. It seems to consist of 2x RAID 5 arrays - is that best practise? Would RAID 10 or 50 be better.

Cheers,

Huwy
